Gee that's a nice oven of your grump do you use it?

Brett, that image is an old one before stripping the gawd-awful paint that came with it.
It took an age to remove. I have used it a couple of times, way back.
The pans and such get much more use on the stove.
That 18 inch is too much; what a beauty!

Cleaning the 18 up now and will post when done . I keep looking at the pattern on your oven lid as I never seen 1 like it and can not get over the work that went into it

BGW , Both ovens are rippers. That big Falkirk is nice and deep, just the thing for doing really big roasts. The depth and shape remind me a lot of my 20 inch Carron. Its interesting that the 14 incher doesnt seem to have the same depth in relation to its size.
Maybe its an earlier or later model from the range they produced back then.
You may find the following of interest.
Quote:
"Falkirk Iron Co was established in 1819 as a Joint Stock Company. The company had its origins in the Falkirk Foundry Co which was set up in 1810 by 'by some gentlemen of the area', employing former Carron Company workers as overseers."

Hi SB
Thanks for posting info as it is all history that is coming to the surface for newbies like me to read and share down the track and so some reason there are people that seems to keep it to themselves not sure why . There is a big difference between the 14 and 18 inch and I am not sure if it's the right match as the lid just does not sit right , it could be abit of grime or something that is holding it up as it looks like it should fit , what is your thoughts on this do you think that there is a chance that it's a mix match ? Can you post a photo of your 20 inch carron as it would be good to see 1 .
Cheers Brett

http://www.falkirkcommunitytrust.org/heritage/learning/resources-for-schools/doc...

Check this link out Brett it has a bit of background on the Falkirk iron works. The thing is with the history of some of these foundries is that the majority are no longer in operation, and unless there is some information on the internet about them, it can be hard to find out anything at all. I'm not sure that your comment about members that use the site are reluctant to share information about the history of camp ovens is right, as I believe we have a pretty informative history section thus far, considering how hard it can be to obtain any information about foundries that have long since closed down. If you have a look through the history section there is a lot of historical information available to us all on camp ovens thankfully to members sharing any information they have come across. It's a work in profess that I'm sure will only continue to grow over the coming years Smiley
Astro.

Sorry Astro
If you read my post to robbo you and the members should know that it was not meant for the forum . There is a lack of info to source on the net and also when I emailed furphys in trying to find out bits and pieces they never had the time to even reply . Sorry if you took it the wrong way

Yeah mate I picked that up after the third email , having just as much luck with RM Williams . As my reply to robbo the forum is a book of history as I found with the info and photos that Has been posted on the Falkirk for all to see . There is one thing I would like to see posted if you don't mind is the old furphy price list with the little cast iron kangaroo boiler I had as this is something that more than likely to be the last of its kind more so than the boiler .
Thanks for info on the Falkirk very interesting read for us all
Brett

Brett, I think Furphy wrote us off when we exposed them in around 2005/6 for getting their camp ovens made in China which they had failed to tell anyone.

There are a lot of people out there who believe they have a genuine Furphy camp oven that has in fact been made in China.
