You would think people would do their homework before parting with that much coin on a jaffle iron.

This bloke is keen.  He has been running this ad on Gumtree since March this year.  Wants $300 and he has been also on eBay selling the same, or at least trying.

Looking in the previous sold listings he already sold 2 in August both for $270 each,... you can bet your bottom dollar there will be at least 6 more to come.

So when do these Jaffle irons become legitimate collectables? Next week?...when there are no new ones left in shops?....next year?.....when one appears in a antiques guide book?.....or in 20 years time. Im interested to know when it would be ok to pay more for one than its original purchase price?

I think it is all about supply and demand really.  If people really, really want one then they will pay the dollars for one.

I must say though that in my opinion $270 for one that was $38 last week is a bit too much to pay.

An item becomes a collectable the moment it is made.

A person will only pay for an item what they think that item is worth, weather it be $35 for a Chinese made Iron or 1k for a Chinese made iron, it's completely up to them.

Do you think it's OK that they listed the item as "Antique" ?

Been actually looking at this since I posted above.

It seems that the "accepted" definition most likely is:

Vintage = Older than 40 years (Apart from wines which are a different definition)
Antique = Older than 100 years
