Just bought a Jayco Heritage 2004 caravan and I am thinking of buying a Yamaha EF2000IS2KVA 4-stroke petrol powered inverter silent generator.

Is the one I need as I want to be self sufficient in the bush.

Never owned a caravan .

thanks norm

One of the biggies is if you want to run your airconditioner.  Some aircons need a huge amount of power yet others don't.  My last van had one of the Dometics on it (forget what model now) and a Honda 2kva had no chance of running it yet my current van has a Coleman Mach on it and a Honda will run the aircon, battery charger and fridge all at the same time.

I would suggest you talk to the dealer and ask if if you give one a run first to make sure it will start the aircon.

What Derek suggested is good value to test run first.

My BIL works on  generators.
He recommends them highly.
Wish I'd known that before I bought the Honda(that failed after the first night of operation)
Could have saved a few hundresd$ as well.

I think it will be OK, I bought at Sydney Tools for 1649 down from 2000 .

I camped for about 50yrs in tents so the air-conditioner is a luxury it mainly the lights and battery.

Thanks for your replies norm

Might have a Honda 2 kva for sale soon.  Since changing my solar and battery set-up I think it may become superfluous unless I head for the tropics and need the aircon.

I now have 480 watts of solar and 200 ah of battery.

Now that's a good setup Derek. Even on cloudy days it should still be putting some charge in.

Haven't really had a chance to try it yet but on one day when it was overcast and showering the system still managed to pump the batteries back up to 100% state of charge

Good to know it fully recharges the batteries on those sorts of days.  Excellent for winter time down south when there isn't as much sunshine.
