Just to agree with a couple of the above posts, I have a Simpson and the casting leaves a bit to be desired, wall thickness varies from thick to thin and the lid is only a rough fit. Only keep it so I can say, "Yep, I've got one".

Hi Mike, that is a genuine nice, usable  oven.

They are certainly roughly cast, I own a 12" incher where the bottom of the base is quite uneven suggesting that sections of the base may have been joined in piecemeal manner. However having said that the roughness does not detract from them being an excellent cooking pot. Smiley

Perhaps a cold pour Stump? Any chance of an image? I have seen similar on a couple of cast iron pieces.
Also on a Douglas shaper; it looked like a flowing crack but cracks don't operate that way, do they.
