All my years of camping have been with just an esky.

Only just started using my caravan three way fridge on gas.

Should have done it years ago.

If I was travelling on my own, Would probably be happy with a rooftop tent on a Landcruiser ute.

We thought about a rooftop tent, Aart, but then I wouldn't be able to carry the kayak. Have spoken to quite a few travellers that have them and most share the same opinion that they are great if you are always on the move, but a pain in the butt if you want to stay put for a while because you have to pack up every time you need to drive somewhere.

A mate bought one and slapped it on top of his 80 series Landcruiser for a Cape trip last year and not long after getting back he removed it and mounted it on a gear carrier trailer - best way to use one he reckons, not so high to climb up into bed and don't have to pack it up whenever you want to just do a run into town or whatever. Makes sense and not the first time I've heard of people doing it.

I guess there are advantages and disadvantages to whichever way you select for touring and camping. We will still do the occasional trip with the caravan, but not as much as we have in previous years.

A friend of mine set up some brackets on his trailer and set up his tent on top. Says it's the best thing he's done. And his Hilux fits in the carport too now.
