Obtained a new iron today that has imprints of fish on the inside but no manufacture details anywhere. One imprint displays the fish with a long flowing tail, the other a shorter tail above symbolic water. Would like some history on this one if anybody can please help?
Thanks
Jack

She’s an interesting looking piece alright.  I certainly have not seen one like it before before.

It doesn’t look all that deep inside or is that just the way the photo is taken?

Do you have a photo of the handles or the complete thing?

Yes Derek it is shallow, 9mm for the cup with the water and 12mm the other, the dia. is 130mm.
More suited as a "toastie" maker than a "pie" maker and that is exactly what I did with it yesterday after a superficial clean, a ham, cheese and tomato sanga with fish bumps (just) very delicious.
The rods are screw in type and I would suggest that the wooden handles were retrofitted.
Full length pic.

Very interesting.  I have let our Jaffna iron guru, Rastas know it is here.  He may pop on the thread at some stage.

Do you think it could be a waffle iron?

It doesn’t have the waffle style plates inside however it  also doesn’t have the traditional jaffle/toastie look to it either.

The Facebook page Bob mentioned is well worth a try.

Something in the back of my mind tells me I have seen those fish emblems before on some Japanese cast iron but cannot be sure.

I take it, it is cast iron?
