Rather than post trips in my camper build I thought I would start a new thread on trips I am taking it on. These trips for now will be local as I need the just test things and just  get used to using it.

My first true test run was to Barrabadeen, this is the Scout camp on Tinaroo.

https://www.facebook.com/pg/Camp-Barrabadeen-1717728998457298/about/?ref=page_in...

This was a good run, as it was a trip to test how my Nissan will tow it.

I had worried about oil temps in the auto transmission. I have always had a oil temp gauge in the Nissan, but until now it was more ornamental as I never towed some as heavy for long. Normal running over the weekend towing it gets up to 70deg coming up the range back to home it went to 81deg. I am happy with that as I think anything around 80deg is good.
I changed the air compressor cut out switch to 150psi off 120psi on, this worked better as it now gives me a pressure to work with easier. I am still to fit the new compressor though.
As I stet the camper up on a bit of a sideling I was able to inflate one side up and deflate the high side down.
Some photos of the weekend.

Last weekend we went out to Woodleigh Station.

http://www.woodleighstation.com.au/

This is one of my favourite camping places where we often go to. It is a round trip of around 135klm.
From home there is plenty of up and down towing, so I thought this might be a good test on fuel, even though it is not to far. My Nissan has never been good with fuel economy, so I have thought it could be worse now, towing the new camper. I filled my rear tank at our local fuel station, and on return I parked it back in the same place to be sure of the refill amount.
The trip used around 28.1ltr per 100klm, this was traveling at the speed limits on the road, and not trying to conserve at all. This is no worse than when I had the old camper, which has surprised me.

That is not me on the ant hill. Smiley

We went out to Mt Albion Station for the weekend, I wanted to test our water usage camping. From our usage so far, we should get 4 nights showering and at least the same from the kitchen system.
I am having trouble with water leaking from one of the water level senders, I have refitted the sender but I am still having a leak around the rubber grommet and nut.
As for the camping spot, this is not far from home, only 32klm, part of the road gravel. The road has just been graded so it was in very good condition.
I will go out again as I found the camp to be for me quite good, and the station owner friendly.

There is quite a bit of history to look into in this area, over the years I have traveled along some of the old rail was sections, now just cuttings and track foundations as the old line was removed for scrap.

http://www.mininghistory.asn.au/wp-content/uploads/4.-Kerr.Article-4Vol.3.2005.c...

https://environment.ehp.qld.gov.au/heritage-register/detail/?id=602355

In one under ground mine I worked in,( Kitchener as mentioned in the Journal of Australasian Mining History,)  the steam train ran underground to be loaded with the tin ore to later crushed and concentrated ready to be smelted at Rocky Bluffs battery and Irvinebank. You can still see the soot on the roof of this underground tunnel today, but i think access is now limited.
Irvinebank also had it's own smelter to smelt the tin concentrate  into pure tin.My father was the last person to my knowledge to have operated this smelter before closing down.

I have a few I want to try locally, as I keep working on the camper. I might as well post them up as it might be handy if anyone in looking for a spot to go camping up here.

With the good weather we are having it was a good run down to Roxy Springs, not to hot and no rain.

https://www.facebook.com/roxyspringsbushcamping/

The owners charge $20 per vehicle, and there are no services supplied and you take your rubbish home.

The drive down was only 45klm to the turn off, and not far to the camp from there. It is a steep drop from the road though, but nothing to worry about.

There are several good camping spots along the river. With no one else there we could choose any where we liked. In the end  we ended up on the top most camp.

The river has a good flow at present so we always had the sound of running water in camp, and the mornings were a little cool.

I know I will be going back. This time I might even take a fishing rod, and see if I can get a fish or two.

I would like to go out to the Winton area later this year. After that I have no thoughts on what we are doing as Bonnie will need to take some time off for a longer trip.
I am still sorting a few bugs out so I am at present just getting it out as often as I can.
The Break controller went funny on this trip, they kept coming on, on there own. The controller display had PL showing, so I need to look into this before I go again

When we were building it, we had comments about how robust it looked, plus I am a bit on the primitive side, so I have been told. So Robustus it was.  Smiley

I have being going to post op a couple of photos of the weekend.
We had a weather forecast of a few showers over the weekend. Up here a few showers could be quite a bit of rain, and that is what we had. On Saturday night, several inches in a couple of hours.
It certainly tested the camper out in wet weather, and I think it worked well, but for a couple of minor problems which we fixed there and then.
Although I will go back and make a permanent fix, before we go away over Easter.

We went out to Pinnarendi Station Stay last weekend to catch up with some friends from Cairns,  that were going out as well.

http://thebrickoven.com.au/

With the wet weather we have been having, it was good to go out to the western side of the ranges, although it was overcast through the day at times. Pinnarendi Station could do with some rain though as they have had very little rain this year.
We went up the the brick oven for the pizza night, it was well worth the money as it was as much as you could eat for $20 each. No photos though, forgot to take any, to busy eating.

Aart I have quite a few things to finish up, plus a general tidy up on finishes if I can.
I am still working on airbag travel height, as with the redesign of the airbags it changed the overall height by around 50mm.
I would like to travel on the highway with lower air pressure to lower it, so trial and error is all I can do. That is why I am starting to take it on longer road trips.
Bonnie and I think we might head out to Pinnarendi Station again for this reason, also it was just a good weekend away.

I have been a bit slack of late posting..
We have had a few trips out camping, but after Bonnie hurt herself we nave been very quiet, but now hopefully ready to go again.
I made some bread while camping the other day, used some new flavoured butter in the mix. I came out very nice.

Things are starting to get sorted here so we have started getting away for a few days at a time.
Last weekend we went over to Tinaroo Dam for a few days, the dam is not far of being full so the camp area now close to the water.
We tried our little slow cooker and it worked well of the inverter using my new battery setup. No photos of that though.
We are hoping to get away this weekend again so I will try to remember to take more photos.

Have fun John.
We thought we had an issue with our duel battery in the back of the 200.
More like the Waeco giving us grief.
Fellow traveller with the right gear tested our battery under load and otherwise.
Nothing wrong with it.
Now the waeco is also working fine.
Don't know why, cause I've done nothing to it.
12 v has a mind of its own.

My fridge played up the other day as well Aart, the thermostat sensor was faulty. I had a different thermostat here but I was able to use that sensor to fix it. I will carry a spare one from now on just in case.
It is a good spot to camp Robert, good price and easy to book.

Good weather up here we are of now for a few days. I don’t know how many nomads will be there, where we are going today, as he does not take booking you just turn up and pay him. I think it is $15 per night and only in cash.

What sort of 12v connector does the fridge cable have (i.e. at the supply end not the fridge end)?

I had an intermittent issue with my Waeco a few years back.  It turned out to be the crappy cigarette lighter style plug was going high resistance and pushing the fridge into low voltage error.

Replaced the plug and socket with Anderson plugs and it hasn't been an issue since.

Aart

What sort of 12v connector does the fridge cable have (i.e. at the supply end not the fridge end)?

I had an intermittent issue with my Waeco a few years back.  It turned out to be the crappy cigarette lighter style plug was going high resistance and pushing the fridge into low voltage error.

Replaced the plug and socket with Anderson plugs and it hasn't been an issue since.

That is exactly what was happening.
Old mate that checked the battery suggested I change the plug.
On your supporting advice, that's what I will do.
Thanks Rabbitz

Aart

We did get away for a few days, I was a bit slack with the photos of our dinners but we had a couple of nice camp oven meals.
I did make a nice loaf of bread though, just a tinge too hot on top though.
Cheese and sundried tomatoes pull apart bread for beer o’clock time, the four us did not leave anything left though.
Sunsets were good as well.

We went down to a camping ground called RustyPheasant for a few days, we booked it through Hipcamp.
The camp itself is on the Barron River and was once a tabaco farm, but now just hobby farms though.
We met Tonina who is the owner, and after talking to her she told me of her first attempts of cooking with camp ovens.  I told her about us here and she has now joined up to learn from us.
The camp it self is a place I will stay at again, as it had good facilities but you need to have to be a little self sufficient as there is no power or drinking water.
Bonnie and I shared our cooking with friends who came with us, hut I did take a few photos, but not as many as I thought.
Scoones for afternoon tea, and pizza one night for tea. Pizza went well, lucky I did get a picture as it went as fast as it came out of the oven. I made them that shape to fit in the oven.

When Sharron and I stayed with you back in 2016 you were building the chassis for Robustus .
You have come a long way since then. Looks to have turned out a great camper. Well done John.
Cheers Brian.

Bonnie and I are off camping for a few days. Going Over to Tinaroo Dam, which is full with 500m going over the spill way.
We will be back for the weekend, as we have a few people coming over for a party on Saturday night. Planning on giving the camp ovens a bit of work.
