Just wondering if members would be interested in a COG while we are all in isolation mode?
My idea is to pick a day/evening and then all have a cook up at home at the same time.
Chat and post photos on the forum as you are cooking.

I would say over to you Brian.

Set a date and let’s do it.

As for timing we most likely need to be mindful of the times differences across the country and daylight saving.   Smiley

You don't even have to cook. Just log in and join in.

We will be having a toast or two at a set time during the day.

That works for me Brian.
May I suggest that we do it for dinner.
The preperation could start early or mid afternoon, and cooking a couple of courses during the rest of the afternoon. Would only be Hetty and I, due to numeric restrictions.

Are we having Nibbles during preparation?

If people would like to join in and are not overly familiar with how the forum operates, particularly uploading photos, I am happy for you to send me an email at derek@aussiecampovenforum.com with your photos and I can post and upload on your behalf.

Basically what we do at a COG is join together in social fellowship, have a few drinks, cook a meal and/or dessert and share the food.

Some of the diehards then sit up half the night drinking.  Grin

Cheers

I have run a couple of extra extension lights on my front verandah. That is if we don't get rain. If it does rain we will shift to the carport.
Are we going to tell what we are cooking, or is it a surprise on the night.

My 16 inch CO is ok, luckily that's the one I'm using today. My 12 inch has a horribly rusted lid I need to tidy up. Good weather for it over here today

It looks a good day up here, not a cloud in the sky. I think we have everything here ready to cook, as we are making do with whatever we already have.

I have had to make a trip out to the chemist and just drove through a shower. Luckily for me I have the undercover area.

My menu for the day:

Afternoon tea - sweet damper, most likely date
Main meal - vindaloo beef curry with spinach and cheese naan
Dessert - Baileys chocolate self saucing pudding (now this is a new recipe for me and I am experimenting with making it fit in my 8 inch camp oven

Sorry to hear that Kevvie. Hope she gets on the mend soon.

Have set the Ozpig up for Maggie but it is starting to sprinkle with rain so throwing that blue tarp over it and hoping it stops.

That timber in the box is red gum I have carted just about all over the country.

Preparation all done here. Might need some rehydration now.

That is not good to hear Kevvie, the Doctors not sure why will, be a worry for you both. We hope she gets well soon though.

We have decided to cook on our back verandah for the day, so we have done a clean up and moved everything around. I had planed to do this sooner or later so I guess now is as good time to do it.
I do plan on making this end of the verandah my permanent area, beer fridge and all.

As we have had strong winds and heavy squalls and that the fire ban is still in to the end of the month a simple meal for us.

Have made a mix for a Chaurice sausage which is Creole Cajun in origin. Came to Louisiana as the Spanish Chorizo but adapted to local customs and ingredients.

So pork shoulder and spices, just doing it as paddies for the burgers. If ok will use it in my bean dishes.

This is more hectic than a proper COG....photos, posting and trying not to burn things at the same time.

We are in town but as we live on the edge of town and we have plenty of shrubs it nearly feels like we are on our own.
Some good looking dishes on here tonight.

Well, what an end to a day.  Piddling down with rain.  A mad rush to get every thing in and on top of that the Internet went down.

Have decided not to cook the dessert, will do that tomorrow.

Wrapped it in an old towel to finish cooking, Ive taken to doing that with a lot of rice dishes as time has gone by and find it works well.

Finished and assembled, eaten and enjoyed. Must say there was great flavour in the Pattie and will certainly be using the recipe in my bean recipes and as a sausage.

Thanks everyone, was an enjoyable afternoon. Been following on here and the Great Australian Backyard Camp Out on FB. Great to see so many people still doing what they love even when we are stuck at home. Now to drag these kids out from inside the house to remind them of the camping part of backyard camping .. I should have been a bit more organised and taken part in what has turned out to be a very interesting concept. I enjoyed all the tasty looking dishes. Unfortunately, I don't have the facility at home to use the camp oven, as all of our camp oven cooking is done while bush camping. I was nearly going to cheat and use the camp oven in the gas oven just to be part of it. Thank you all for your great efforts.

Thanks for the late photos Muzz.  Very nice looking pork dish.

That camp oven mate looks like one of the originals with the double diffuser at the bottom.  Not sure why Bill stopped making it that way.

Only 5 days after being announced and it was on. The first COG in Isolation.
The cooking was happening from Far North Queensland through NSW, SA and over as far as Perth WA. truly a great effort.
The meals cooked and photographed where amazing. Top effort by everyone.
Take care, stay safe and long live COCIA. Smiley

It's got a bit of age on it now Derek. It's one of the ones that I won in the comp at Lismore Caravan and Camping Show years ago.

It was a good night, plenty of good dishes, it goes to show distance is not a problem.
I would like to thank shackles for the idea, and I would like to think it would be worth doing it again some time in the future. Smiley

I believe having this type of COG  gives people who are unable to attend a COG like  at Alstonville  have another way to  show off their cooking skills to other members.

I agree Kevvie.
Not quite the  same comraderie as our previos COGs, but good fun and connection. Saves a heap on fuel costs as well.

Ive had a go at replacing the prawns with chicken and that works pretty well also.

I'm disapointed that I missed this cog. I might have actually got through it without getting hurt 👍😁

I thought about joining y'all too.

But in April night temps (your daytime) here are below freezing.  We have a nice pleasant fall, usually snowy winter (mid November through March), & cool April and May.  Spring is the first 2 to 3 weeks in June.  Summer arrives promptly with the equinox.

Still, I get to see your photos.

Rastas, who we don’t see on here much these days, has a cold smoker and smokes his own cheese.
