All hail mighty camp oven gurus.

I have been trying to work out a stop gap camp oven "stand".  At this time I have come down on using my mini Weber kettle.

The ovens will fit nicely, however, the cast iron job makes it quite top heavy, the spun steel ones from OzWit seem ok.

So onto my "analysis paralysis".  Would it be better to put the underneath heat beads onto the charcoal grill and sit the oven on the cooking grill or put the beads on the cooking grill and sit the oven directly on them?

The baby Weber has about 95 mm between the charcoal grill and the cooking grill, so the beads would be 60 or 70 mm from the oven, if they are on the charcoal grill.

Now, I know the first answer will be "give it a go and see what happens" and I intend to do just that but I thought I'd tap the fount of knowledge here too.

So what say you. gurus?

Hi Derek,

I had seen the frying pan idea and am intent on looking for one at the next council hard rubbish day.

I have seen the Biji's before and they are a great idea.

Wait, time to ring my brother at the farm - next clearing sale he goes to I think I'll get him to grab me some plough discs...

Now, where is that welder?

Hi Rabbitz

I bought this at a tip shop for $5
Might find one at a clean up.
Basically a round portable gas BBQ.
I removed everything that had to do with gas and use it as a platform. Saves my back.
The photo says it all.

Kev if you look at the photo in the link in my post, that was an aluminium one.  I used it for years and years.

In fact I did most of the testing using it for the Heat Beads charts at https://www.aussiecampovencook.com/heatbeadsbbqbriquettes.htm

So many ideas.

What is the rack the oven is sitting on?  (or is it a Tip Shop random piece?)

Kev I also carry a aluminium elec pan with me after talking to Derek at the 2018 COG. Nearly had a cheep Biji bbq but the woman withdrew the sale.

Also carry a fire pit with folding legs and wire cover from BCF. ALDI had them on special last weekend for under $50.

Cheers Bear

Hi Bear
Thanks for the info.
I have a  wood stove the van. But as we live here in the
village we don't want to make smoke. So I have a gas ring   I am going to get a camp oven mate and set up in the back yard The old frying pan I will use  with beads. I am also   going to get a 8"oven for small dishes for the two of us
We will leave using the wood stove until we can go away in the caravan.

regards Kev
