I just ordered a couple of mesh grill mats to try.
They are teflon and the mesh system allows fat to drain while allowing the smoke flavour through. Like the flat sheets, they can be cut to shape.
Interestingly, the video showed an egg being fried without seeping through. I guess the pre-heated mat sealed it straight away so that it couldn't happen. Apparently dishwasher proof and a wipe is enough to clean it. Should be handy on the open fire or grid, so I will let you know how good it actually is when we all do the 'great escape'.

Hi Smokey
Years ago (how I am showing my age) we had the same type of mat  which is thin like paper we would use it on the caravan parks BBQ plate saving catching any germs from the plate. It worked really good.
Good luck with your cooking
regards Kev

I saw those at Bunnings yesterday.
Thought the mesh was odd.
Not having seen them before.  May have to get one for the caravan.

Been a lot of discussion about these on social media for quite a while and some people swear by them.

Not sure I would have a use for one though.  Got too much stuff now  Grin

A good mate of mine uses the thin black teflon sheet type all the time.
Perfect if you like your steak stewed, not seared.

We only ever suffered one of his BBQ parties  Angry

I bought one of those several years ago with the intent of using it on the Weber Q.  It is still here somewhere in the original tube it came in.  They were all the go back then but we never used it.
