I spent some time today looking through the July birthdays list.
Most are in their 50s to 70s
Getting on a bit

Last couple of months I attended  BCR a retreat for busted ADF and Emergency services personnel.
On both occasions there was a large number of CO cooks doing a pretty good job, with similar gusto as we do when we attend COGs

All of them were 20 to mid 40s.
Similar when camping away have noticed a lot of sub 40s and as young as 20.

I always make a point of plugging COCIA and COGs to suitable persons. Read not riff raff .

Seems a resurgence is with us, likely due to social media, Thomo in the past and outdoors programs.
So pleased the art of CO cooking is not lost.

There's a camp oven group on FB that has grown around 30000 members in just a few months. Have been posting links to here to encourage people to join but no one seems interested. I don't understand, finding information within a forum is so much easier than dealing with the Facebook search bar. And Facebook is rife with online bullying these days, it really doesn't appeal to me much anymore

*Edit: it's grown about 60,000 members. Has 153,000 members and was around the 90k mark when I joined in March/April

The original Facebook Group I had called Camp Oven Cooking in Australia (COCIA) had 54,000 members when I closed it.  A lot of the Facebook Groups you see out there started to come about after we closed ours.  We were the only camp oven group on Facebook then.

It was a direct offshoot from the forum here and I regularly plugged the forum but the format of Facebook makes it more attractive.

It really is the era of Facebook now.

This old forum software, although it was tops in it’s day, is now old technology now.

By the way there appears to be at least one new member register here nearly every day but they never post.  We have members who registered here ten or more years ago and still regularly log in for a read but have never posted.

Agree with Tadpole to much bullying and trying to force people to what they do which most time is not the correct way.

Member of the same group but do not post there. People are lazy on facebook asking questions that a simple search will provide the answer for.

I have just quit FaceBook and the camp oven forums there, I got sick of reading everyday the same questions. My favourite was the answer to a question:
How do I clean a rusty camp oven?
One of the replies was:
Do not use the molasses bath method, it weakens the cast iron and makes it go soft.

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd
