Kicking this off now as a replacement for Alstonville.

What it will be is a weekend where we hope everyone wherever they are, especially those at home, will have a weekend or even just a day or a few hours of outdoor or camp oven cooking and to post it up here with photos.

Looking forward to it.

Will just be cooking Saturday as my gear will all be packed in the ute. Will be using a couple of spare 10 inch camp ovens I have.

Decided to do slow cooked Lamb Shanks Rogan Josh. Should be interesting.

Cheers Robert

We are a bit like Aart and will just keep on going providing the weather gods are kind to us.

I have two rather large old iron bark fence posts I need to cut up for the Ozpig.  Going to be a test for my baby Stihl chainsaw.

Given the weather forecast for the bottom left-hand corner of the country this week and weekend I think I'll simply be a spectator.

Have fun all.

I will be going off firewood collecting on Saturday, camping overnight. Phone signal is a bit touch and go in the areas I go to, but will be sure to take photos and share them on Sunday. Now to decide what to cook...

Derek, I have an electric (240v) Stihl chainsaw with a 14" bar, surprising how good it is. Ran out of bar oil on a recent trip so I used the oil from a bottle of dried tomatoes, true, the bonus is a lovely smell of tomatoes when I'm cutting firewood now.
A mate and I compared his 18v battery powered saw with the 240v Stihl, my saw had much more grunt but of course you need a 240v power source.
Rob.

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd

I have recently upgraded to a Makita 36v saw.  I bought the brushless version as it had a much faster chain speed than the brushed version.
I have just cut some fire wood with it.

Had to bring my firewood collecting forward a day as we have an inch of rain forecast for tomorrow. Not a bad log, have got 3 trailer loads out of it so far, will probably get another one or two from it though am starting to hit a bit of rot the further up I go. Made the kids nachos for dinner last night. Planning on doing a roast chicken tonight for the COG Smiley

We are not normally lunch eaters so this two and a half cup of flour sweet sultana damper will be lunch and afternoon tea.  If I had of thought of it should have soaked the sultanas in rum overnight.

Quite pleased with how much it rose during the cooking.

Needs to cool before cutting.

It's Jarrah. Really nice wood for the fireplace, burns down to almost nothing. Only clean the fireplace out once a year

Using the Heat Bead basket for the first time on the Ozpig.  Hoping the beads will keep going seeing they are down inside.

Steak, mushrooms and onion on the go for some pies later.  There is also beef stock, port, thyme, salt and pepper in there.

Bacon and cheese damper cooking in the 12" oven. Tasked my daughter with making this, she added way too much water but it should be ok. Haven't had both my ovens fired up at the same time for a while

After several hours at a slow simmer the filling has been thickened with a little flour and ready now to make the pies.

Starting to get dark here.

Just finished dinner very nice indeed, lamb shanks excellent with a side dish of yoghurt, lemon zest and juice with tortillas as   I could not find papadens.

And of course a good cardboard red. Cheers

It a shame about the wind Derek. Very light wind here. Peggy the pug and I have been sitting in the sun and also listening to Macca. Just came in to have breakfast. Frying pan not CO.

I wish everyone all the very best with their cooking today.

I was planning a big breakfast with the big steel skillet on the Ozpig.

With the wind chill it is only 5 degrees here.

There is going to be snow on the New England today around Guyra and Walcha and the breeze feels like it is coming direct from there.

Brunch should have been cooked on the Ozpig but didn’t happen.  Still blowing a gale and only 7.9 degrees as I type.

Bacon, eggs, tomato, toast, mushrooms, black pudding and beans went down a treat.

Now sitting with a flat white coffee.

Maggie said before, wasn’t the Ekka supposed to be this week?

She was right, the Ekka and westerly winds for August is what we get up here.

Just looked at the weather for Alstonville and it is no different down there.

Not yet, still looking.  That is a deep 10” Camp Chef with legs and they just fit inside.

Makes it difficult because I cannot use a diffuser and hard to keep a simmer going.

This one would do nicely I think.  Those are US dollars and add $40 for freight makes it a bit much.

Might check out Anaconda or BCF.
