So at the end of the day, she was looking pretty good for her age, regardless of a few old scars.

Yes Derek, they do. Was a big heavy job though, but worth it.
I am looking at getting a plough disk, trimming it and welding a lip and band around it, as well as a handle on top, for a lid.
I am really itching now to cook a big roast with all the veggies in there.

I see you live on the Downs.  Larges Foundry in Toowoomba are known for casting some large cast iron ovens.  They may be able to cast one for you.

Can’t hurt to ask.

Cheers

Actually, I didn't know they were still going.
would certainly be worth locating them and asking.
Cheers.

Thanks Chally.
Considering the age and obvious neglect over the decades, I am happy with the result.
The old chopping block is an original block from a butcher shop that I was given a few years ago. It will go in the middle of my entertainment area kitchen location.

Hi Hogsclogs
The old oven turned out pretty good, well done.
Seeing your  butchers block, brings back memories of going  to the butchers  shop when I was a kid (Old time ago now) seeing the butcher using the block and the saw dust all over
the floor.

Regards  Kevvie  (Kev) Wink

Well, I managed to find a 24" plough disc and with a bit of modification, I can get it looking close to a lid.
I am currently undertaking negotiations with the Minister of War and Finance to display this one and get a new 24" oven, as they are great.
