Agree with Derek I cannot get my burner down low enough for most cooking. May check out smaller sizes. Cheers Robert

The original ones came with a type of diffuser.  It was a double layered one and you can see it in the upside down lid in my photo.

We found that it didn’t really diffuse the heat as such because it simply just builds up inside the COM regardless.

They eventually dispensed with them.

In  a video I saw on U tube the Camp oven mate came with something like a  wire trivet that the CO would sit on. But mine is just made from the same flat metal as the came oven mate was made out of with holes drilled in it.  No defuser.

There have, to my knowledge, been three different ones.  The original diffuser I mentioned above, a simple wire rack like a trivet and the one you have now which is just a flat plate with holes in it.

All produce basically the same results.  The key is in a small flame on the burner.

Bit of trivia for you Kev.  The COM originally only came in one size to suit a 12” camp oven however a group of coppers here on the Gold Coast, who regularly got out and camped together, contacted Southern Metal Spinners and asked Bill if he could make some larger one as they all had 15” Furphy Camp Ovens.  That is how the larger one came about.
