There is a lot of knowledge on here so I am seeking help.  For sometime now I have seen banana plants for sale here in Queensland that are listed as Java Blue and  Red Dacca (see photos).

They clam the Java tastes like vanilla custard/ice cream and the Dacca has a hint of raspberry flavour.

Anyone had any personal experience with them.

I thought they might be a gimmick at first but they are definitely real.

I have already planted some lady finger bananas, but these have me intrigued.

I remember years ago we went to a farm at Redland Bay that grew tropicial fruit trees. We got a banana plant from them I cannot remember the name but you could only cook with it.
It was the size of cavandish and twice the size of a lady finger.
They grew very fast. They were a light purple/red colour.
In the exotic fruit tree book I have they mention about 10 varieties of banana.
regards Kev

Kev, I have cooked with plantain.  Very nice in curry.  Has the texture of sweet potato but with less sweetness.  Not seem them around for a long time.
