How often do you actually read the ingredient list on products you buy?

It is a regular thing here for us to have a Sunday cook up brunch and today decided to slip down to our local butcher for some of their homemade snags and bacon.

I selected a small pack of Italian Style sausages as they “looked” pretty good with lots of chunky meat.  Similar looking to a chorizo.

Was driving home with them on the seat beside me and I happened to glance down and saw that they had as one of the ingredients the flavour enhancer 621 which is MSG.

Maggie has an allergy to it.

So back to the shop and explained that and happily got my money back.  I went back to the fridge and ended up getting some Bratwursts but what surprised me was the number of different sausages that had MSG as an ingredient.

These were all prepacked so accordingly they have to have the ingredients listed but if you were just selecting sausages from the large trays in the display cabinet you wouldn’t know.

Some time back I stopped buying from our local when their prices are exorbitant compared to the supermarkets and I guess this confirms I won’t be going back.

Why you would need MSG in a sausage I don’t know anyway

Hi Derek
We agree with you.. We are a very wary  of buying sausages. Due to Lesley's health
Some time back we found a whole sale company producing  different flavour Gluten free sausages. We have bought them in the past which we enjoyed But being a whole sale company we could only buy them in 5kg lots but meant we had a lot of the one flavour but it was handy when we would shared with friends.

If I day anything with MSG in it, I get a tightness in the chest.
My mum would have nightmares with it.

MSG used because of low quality no taste meat.

Will be doing my own again when we are back from the trip.
