Yesterday started a job bigger than I expected.  If you look at the first photo all that brown marking and dirty colour is not actually dirt but the decals breaking down. Some of the grey metallic ones have also crazed.

Son-In-Law is a sign writer and tells me these things have a life of around five years which is very disappointing as when we bought the motorhome there was $3200 worth of decals on it.

So yesterday started taking them off.  I was expecting some difficulty but wow.  Biggest disappointment was they took the clear coat off the drivers door.  No real big deal as a spray painter can easily fix that.

Have given myself two weeks to do it and the good thing is when finished our Son-In-Law will replace with something else if we decide we don’t like the plain sides.

What did you use to take them off with? Hair dryer?

The black, white and dark grey came off with a hairdryer but the silver ones that are all crazed are like aluminium foil and won’t peel.  Today I bought a couple of caramel wheels to get them off.  Will try them tomorrow.

I lost a week with Maggie being unwell so in to it again tomorrow hopefully.

While I have remove a lot, some of those decals are difficult to remove so the son-in-law is lending me a commercial steamer that they use.

The difficult ones are the grey metallic ones as they are just like aluminium foil and very difficult to peel.

This is all starting to get very difficult now.  The grey metallic stickers are baked on really hard and I have ordered some plastic razor blades that the experts allegedly use.  My two week time frame is being extended.   Grin Grin Grin Grin

The plastic razors arrived this morning so back into it.

No decals left on the starboard side and I am halfway down the port side.

Currently lacking energy so giving it away for the day.

I think one more day and they will be all off then the cut and polish starts.

I think you might have your port and starboard reversed.

Too much tawny perhaps?

Would you paint something this time or use new decals if you decide you do not like the plain sides.

With the door the clear coat could be a problem to, some two pack paints I have used, the top coat is the catalyst, it reacts with the base colour and then sets to give the finish.
If it was what I call acrylic, the top coat is just that.

This is a European Fiat thing so they could have put anything on it really.  I will take it to a panel beater and see what they say.  If the whole door has to be resprayed then so be it.

Some of you may remember when I first bought the motorhome I put a hole in one of the panels when a silly parking attendant waved me over to where they were standing. (First photo)

The repair job was under one of the stickers I removed today and what a bodgy job they did to it then covered it up with a new bit of vinyl. (Second photo.

Going to have to get that redone now as well.   Angry

Well my hands, arms and shoulders are buggered but all the decals are gone.  Going to leave the front top ones for now as they look ok.

Now the job of cleaning and polishing then replace the side bumper strips.

Hoping to get away for a couple of weeks end of the month if Maggie’s medical appointments all work out.

Well I am done and dusted.  Took longer than expected due to weather and these old bones not being what they were.

She is looking mighty schmick with a pretty good shine up there beside the shed.  I even bought a shiny new towball for it.  Grin Grin

Maggie said, “You need something to put it in now so it stays that way.”  Roll Eyes

That is one good thing about the lithium power system.  Throw the master switch  so nothing drawing power and you can ignore it.

Amazing how much stuff we actually took out of the motorhome.  Certainly a lot of empty space now. Big one was cooking utensils/equipment.   Grin
