Had a look at the old Albany Historic Whaling Station today. They have a complete whaling boat in dry dock still with the harpoon launcher on it.

This was particularly interesting for me as when I was 15/16 I used to buy small bottles of whale oil from here to use as fishing burley.

Back well before the internet and online shopping I had to go to the post office and buy a postal money order and actually write a letter telling them what I wanted and post it off. They advertised in fishing magazines.

Cannot remember how much it was now but it used to come back in the mail in a small brown glass bottle with a cork in it.

Drove up to the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial today.

A pity it was hazy as the views are fantastic.

The memorial itself is exceptionally well done. I wasn’t aware that a large number of troops heading for Galipolli left from Albany.

The detail in the statues were amazing.

Maggie remembers going to this beach in Albany when she was 19.

There are two ships sitting out in the harbour and two other tied up being loaded

Made it up to Katanning today.

Stopping in this amazing RV Rest Area free for two nights. Has a dump point and water available. Only room for 7 long vehicles but more shorter ones could fit in.

Katanning was Maggie’s main shopping place back around 47 years ago. Shortly going to have a look at the town to see what she can remember.

Tomorrow will try and find the farm she lived on.
