Hi All,
Well ,it’s nearly to the 12 month count down until the 2024 ACOF in October 2024. After the huge amount of fun I had in ‘22 I am going to up my game and enter the Championship Section in ‘24 Competition.

The reason for this post is to ask a question, would there be anyone from the SE QLD area (I’m in Brisbane) that would like to join three other nuts to make a team of 4. We currently are two camp ‘chefs’ and one chief bottle washer at the moment and would like a third camp ‘chef’.

The Website and Domain are currently ‘parked’ at the moment but I am assuming the new 2024 version will be up soon. The competition is two days of full on cooking and if the format is the same I would expect a themed event. 2021 was a bush cook theme, 2022 was a Xmas theme with most of the dishes cooked were already predetermined and some even had specific recipes to follow. And of course there were some left up to the teams. The cooking was held over the Saturday and Sunday with judging held at several times during those two days. The official format is currently unknown but will be on the website as soon as it is released.

I’ll be entering as soon as it comes up. If the format is the same as last year, the entry fee will secure both a cooking site and 2 campsites close to the cooking arena, the entry fee also covers the entry into the Festival site itself for the four team members. The camping permit is for a week so you can arrive early I think from memory the Wednesday before and leave Tuesday so it’s pretty reasonable.

So, if this something you might like to do during the long weekend in October 2024 please consider dropping a reply to this post. It gives us 12 months to plan and practice recipes, gather camp-ovens and shake out the camping gear.

Regards
Mal

Good Morning fellow cast iron cooks, the Australian Camp Oven Festival is coming closer. 5-6 October in Millmerran QLD. I entered the cooking comp in ‘22 with a modicum of success and was hoping to enter this year for more cooking adventures. The cooking competition is held over the two days of the festival and it’s a wonderful way to be a very integral part of the event.

I am looking, asking, hoping to encourage to put a team together to try either the intermediate or even the Championship round of the event. I did have two other members but ill health and family commitments meant I am currently flying solo. But I don’t think that cooking the entire category is possible for one.

Would anyone like to join me? I’ll be putting up the entry fee. If anybody would be interested I can post the competition menu to have a look at what you might be getting into.

Once again Mal, we shall be on our round Australia trip.  While I have never cooked there, have been to the Festival a few times now and always enjoyed it.

Good luck.

Petty sure im going for a look this year.
I've done a few comps in the past with and without other members from this forum., and always done ok.
Having said that, this time I think I'd rather watch from a distance, relax  and enjoy the atmosphere.
Comps can be hectic and hard work, good luck with it.
I've got a couple of recipes that have won comps that I  would be happy to share if they are of any use to you.
