Since Covid we have had very limited success with organising COG’s.

I would like to look at next year and hoping I can garner some interest to kick things off.

I know Alstonville was always a great spot so would like to look at a date earlier in the new year as Maggie and I intend to head across northern Aussie in early winter.

What are peoples thoughts.

Derek, have we confirmed with the caretakers that we can have a fire, or at least have heat beads off the ground.

I'm thinking about camping at Mann River reserve before or after the COG. Been on my gotta do list a long time..

URGENT - PLEASE READ

I rang the Showgrounds today and they have a large caravan club booked in for the time we were proposing so we need to change.

They have nothing the week before so we will need to move the COG to the week of 4 to 10 March.

I have made a tentative booking for that time.

Please let me know how this affects your plans.

I actually spoke to the Show Society Secretary as the new Caretakers do not start for a couple of weeks.

Good morning all.

I have just spoken to the Showground and confirmed our booking arriving on 4th March and leaving on 12 March. I have reserved 8 sites but did let them know we may not take all of them. The new caretakers are in the process of taking over. Sandra is her name.

Could you please ring the Showground on 0427 771 512 and confirm the dates that you each will be there. The booking is under the name Camp Oven Cooking Group.

Maggie and I will be there for the full time.

Just letting you all know.

I had a call from Sandra this morning from the Showgrounds.

They have decided that we cannot have a fire in the main arena as we have in the past. I did explain what we do however their reasoning is they have a horse event after we leave and it could cause an indent or soft spot that would be detrimental to the horses.

We are going to all be camped just below the office in the corner and she said we can look at having a fire in the cattle yard, or sand arena as she called it.

I guess we will make an assessment when we get there.

Organising these things used to be easy once.

I would suggest everyone look at bringing Heat Beads and some sort of platform to cook up off the ground as well. I shall bring my Weber. Wink

I am not sure really.

I will bring some stuff but rely on local shopping and what ever comes to mind down there. Often I can walk through a supermarket or look in a butchers window and see something that a great ideas comes out of.

Couple of things I will do for sure:

Steak and kidney pie
Duck masamam curry and rice

The usual:
Sausage rolls
Damper
Focaccia
Dessert of some sort like a crumble

As always we need to be mindful of not overcooking.

EDIT: IGA have lamb leg on special so will grab one tomorrow and cook that as well.

No not a lot. I know Aart has cooked garlic prawns several times. Rory has cooked whiting fillets and mussels. Jilli used to do an Indonesian dish that had fried whole crispy little fish in it. We have had fresh salmon smoked.

Have a vague memory of a fish pie.

I am sure there have been more though.

Our last meal. Judy cooked up some plums which we had on toast with cream cheese, rocket and ham. Amazing flavours together.

I had the lamb on buns with gravy and mint jelly.

Jeannie cooked a lamb forequarter chop stew.

Carolyn cooked some mashed potato and cauliflower that I didn’t get photos of.

The COG has come to a close we are all departing in the morning.

Has been a great time and I would like to thank everyone for coming, for the great company and all the amazing food.
