Clearly, you mean potato scallops.

And before you ask, it's called devon not fritz.

For me it has always been Devon however I have always understood that the original name was Fritz and came from early German immigrants to the country.

The name was changed to Devon during the First World War due to the anti-German sentiment across the country.

In South Australia a lot of towns bore German names and they too were changed.  Was interesting in our last few trips to SA seeing town name boards also stating “Formally Know As” and putting the German names up.

We have a place just up the road from us called Haigsleagh.  It had the original name of Kirchheim (Kircheim is German for place of churches) and was changed during the war.  It was named after some oddball English General called Haigsleagh.

We have a very interesting and chequered history here in Australia.

Don't get me started on the weirdo names they have for things down here.  I think the biggest travesty is what they call a "pint".  It is the equivalent of a NSW schooner (425ml).  It is no where near a pint!

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Not a beer drinker as such but did see a state by state comparison recently on what each state calls what.

Sorry Brian we have gone all over the place from your original but these things get people talking.  Did you know they call them potato cakes in Victoria.   Cheesy
