ZIPLOC OMELET
Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them. Add prepared ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato to the bag and shake well to mix. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up. Place the bag into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water. Open the bag and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed. |

Tried it out on the boss and she was impressed.
2 eggs, grated cheese, diced onion and a pinch of mixed herbs. No plastic taste according to the taste tester, I thought their might be some lingering. Be sure to cook for 13 minutes as I went 10 and had to put it back in even though it looked cooked, still raw on inside Kev |

Here are Kev's photos of this delicacy. Very simple and very nice. You don't need a cast iron omelette pan for these. ;D ;D ;D ;D

In all my readings I have found that there are a number of the tag along tours that regularly cook these for breakfast.

Cant find a Ziploc in Woolworths or Coles, now what?
Got plenty of Organic Free Range eggs from Inwoods Boodua near Kingsthorpe who deliver to the Pub every two weeks when you will find just about every person sitting at the bar has 1 doz or 2 doz on the bar next to their beer ;D ;D ;D KD |

I had a job as the cook on a Tag-along tour to the Tip of Cape York but this is a new one to me.
Tried out on Beryl earlier this week, turned out real good, but still uncooked in the middle so nuked it on toast. KD |

Title: Re: ZIPLOC OMELET Post by Derek on Oct 25th, 2009 at 11:11am
Very nice Rick. I think the cliplock/snaplock bags are made of a better plastic for this sort of thing
Kingsthorpe David wrote on Oct 23rd, 2009 at 6:16pm:
David, what I read is that in the evening you are given a bag that you write your name on as well as what ingredients you want in the omelette. Wake up in the morning and it is ready for you. :D |

Title: Re: ZIPLOC OMELET Post by Derek on Jan 9th, 2010 at 1:43pm
While this all looks good I have never cooked one because to me their is something not quite right about cooking an omelette in a plastic bag.
Must admit though it would be quite a crowd pleaser at a camp oven cooking demonstration. :D |

Title: Re: ZIPLOC OMELET Post by Robbo on Jan 10th, 2010 at 11:12am
I guess being plastic it won't stick.
Do you give the inside of the bag a quick spray with canola oil or anything Soot? Robbo |
|
Title: Re: ZIPLOC OMELET Post by sooty on Jan 10th, 2010 at 8:50pm
No Robbo, have always just put the gear in the bags and boiled them.
None have ever stuck. Soot |

Couldn't help myself. Had them for breakfast this morning. Turned out great. Mine needed an extra minute though because I used 2 small eggs and a large one. lucky I was practicing at home. I just popped it in the microwave for a few seconds.
