Check this one out folks. It looks like an old design (unlike the new Chinese Furphies) yet doesnt have a date stamp on the lid.

I was prepared to go to $150 for this old girl but it has already passed that.  Bugga these old things are getting expensive.

Hi Derek, how do you know if they are old Furphy's or the Chinese made ones ? I have seen the new Chinese ones in camping stores and they are hard to pick from the older ones. Furphy claim they are still made," To the same high standards". Rob.

I reckon the surface is much more smoother on the new ones and the lip on the lid is much more square in shape.  I was thinking of going down and taking a few photos in the camping shop here as they have quite a few but not sure if they will let me.  Shocked

When I spoke to Furphy they told me that they "sent their moulds overseas".  From what I can see the base is the same however the lid is different.

Whats the bet that the iron comes from Australia.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

On a side note I picked up a pack of frozen butterfly winter whiting in the shop today.  Turned it over and there on the back was written, processed in Thailand.  I have heard before that it is cheaper to send the fish over there to get filleted and processed then send it back cheaper than what it is to do it in Australia.  I guess that confirms it.

Hey Wazza, I've been looking for a 12" Furphy for a couple of years now, reckon I've visited hundreds of "Old Wares and Antiques" shops in four states, seen a lot of rubbish but no Furphy's. They are very thin on the ground and increasing in value all the time. Keep looking.    Rob.

I have several mates who live rural NSW and Victoria that I have asked to keep an eye out for any old ovens especially Furphys. They tell me that old ovens are around but they are usually family heirlooms, used regularly and definitely not for sale. I can only hope.....
