Whoa back there, whoa I say... let sanity in, I've got a pretty bad case of castironitis but even I can't justify spending that sort of $$$$ on a oven only good for show; but then don't let me put you off Derek.

pd

Poddy - these small ovens are quite functional.  I use mine sometimes (Campchef,  not Lodge) for sauces,  or heating butter etc.   And I guess,  despite they only hold a cup,  ya could Furpey's brains in there 3 times over  . . . . . . .lol  (Just kiddin',  Furph)

Derek  -  I blundered.  Sorry about that.  My eyes ain't that good,  and I've just realized that mine is NOT the Lodge,  but the Campchef.  Sooooooo  it is possible the Lodge will fetch big bucks on account of scarcity.  I still think it's bloody ridiculous nonetheless.

And to LK,  an apology for suspecting for one minute you were perpetrating a fraud on our beloved Leader and Guru,  Derek.  I guess I judge people by my own standards  -  it's the kinda prank I would pull if I had the technical knowhow  -  lol

JtB if you have any ovens  esp. a 5" Lodge laying around that might benefit from a lovely holiday in the sun yer can send 'em to me. I live very close to the beach and will give 'em the three "S's", sun, surf and er sand.
Seriously though I watch US eBay and have'nt seen a decent camp oven (as opposed to dutch oven) for months. When a good one comes up they either won't ship outside the US or just don't answer my emails, iggerant lot ! Then to top it off they reckon American cast iron is the best ever produced... mob of big heads..
Thats my say for today fellow cast iron lovers,    pd

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd

Poddy -  I don't have a 5" Lodge - I have the Campchef,  which are ubiquitous.  So much so they come with Xmas wax scented candles in them . . . . . grrrrrrrrrr.  In fact I didn't even know there WAS a Lodge model.  They don't make it these days and probably have not for some years. Certainly,  Lodge here are superior to anything else I have seen,  but from photos I've seen of some of the OZ gear,  it looks pretty good too.

Perhaps if something on ebay takes your fancy,  you can park it up with me and Derek can pick it up from me in April - I'm only a 3 hour drive north of the Texas border.

(Mate,  'course ya can trust me.  Wot were ya thinkin' there for a minute ?  Oh ye of little faith . . . . . . .)

Get out the sodium, oh ye of a practical turn of mind.  If you're going to make that promise, ye'll need to deliver in person, just to visit PD's neighbors.

Besides, Derek's gonna have ta pay extree to the bird flying him home.  Ye just know he's too interested in
'stuff from away'.  All those 'Merican ads have gotten to him.

How come you got the 5" CampChef with the candle?  There is the just-the-oven option, especially via e-bay.

& did you ever check out Amazon.  I hear tell that  they have good prices, if you keep checking.

Cool

Ahem,  Ma'am . . . . .

Nowhere did I say I had the candle version . . . . .lol.  I merely reported having seen them.  I have the fully functional version.  And it's time you were in bed . . . .lol

A quaint British custom - St. John pronounced "Sinjin"  And wot's the deal on the Scottish Brogue ?  Curiously,  my name is John Cleal.  Scottish.  And a bastardisation of "Clay Hill".    I have you picked for a Lowlander.  And I don't give a fat rat's rectum wot time it is - I sleep when I need to and annoy other people when I'm awake . . . . . .  lol
