I think it looks great and I also think you should get one. I bought 2 of the Potjies (swapped one for the Furphy 12") and freight was only $8.80 to the coast & same day.

I only use Olive Oil Muzz. I also find rubbing the oil into the iron with a paper towel is the best for me. I do the seasoning thing twice in the BBQ at about 400 Deg F I know this is more than recommended but I reckon it's the best finish that I've found. If the pot has been seasoned before & a bit crappy I cremate it in the BBQ at about 550-600 deg until it is all burnt off and is waiting to be redone. A quick wire brush is all that is required. Then off you go.

Thanks Skip
I have been using pressure pack spray on oil.... I think (and looking at yours) it is not concentrated (or pure enough) to give an even coating..thank you for your tips...can you do a step by step instructions.. under a different heading and a few photos..
Thanks Muzz

Interesting website from South Africa.  http://funkymunky.co.za/potjiekos.html ; Check out his recipes.  The sheeps head looks cool.  Grin Grin Grin

Look at the size of the Potjie on the front page.

Here is a company that sells them in South Africa http://www.biltongmakers.com/

The biggest mother of all weighs 85 kgs, holds 95 litres and sells for around $480 AUD.  Shocked

Grouse site-bloody big pots hey!
I am cooking a curry/stewy sort of thing tomorrow night in the Potjie. I am all set to buy the number 4.I've been trying to talk myself out of it but I'm not sure that I can. Grin
The potjie seems to be a very versatile pot that will suit Aussies well. Have you ever made anything in one Derek?

I don't own one yet and am very reluctant to start buying them. Once you do you never know where it will lead.  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
