BRISBANE REGION
Pumicestone Road, Toorbul – forest fire
Several fire crews remain on scene at a fire on Pumicestone Road at
Toorbul. The fire started around 7.20am in a forestry area. Heavy
machinery is being used to construct fire breaks and backburning is
being performed in the western and southern sectors of the fire. One
helicopter will attend to conduct air observation and water bombing.
There is no threat to property.

SOUTH EASTERN REGION
Warrego Highway, Plainland – grass fire
Several fire crews have contained a large grass fire off Weier Road at
Plainland. Firefighters are currently monitoring flare ups within the
area. A helicopter was used to conduct water bombing. The fire started
just before 9am. There is no threat to property.

Christmas Creek Road, Lamington – grass fire
Four fire crews are responding to a grass fire on Christmas Creek Road,
Lamington. This fire was originally burning in inaccessible areas
through heavily wooded country. Fire crews are currently establishing
containment lines around the fire and will perform backburning. There is
no threat to property.

Pimpama Jacobs Well Road, Pimpama – grass fire
Four fire crews are on scene at a large grass fire on Pimpama Jacobs
Well Road, Pimpama. The fire started around 2.15pm. A small shed has
been damaged in the blaze but no homes are under threat.

Long Gully Road, Grandchester - grass fire
A grass fire on Long Gully Road, Grandchester was brought under control
around 1.30pm. Two fire crews remain on scene to monitor the situation.
The fire started around 3pm yesterday. No property is currently under
threat.

Mountain View Drive, Minden – grass fire
Several fire crews are working to contain a grass fire on Mountain View
Drive, Minden after it flared up around 11.15am. A bobcat is being used
to put in fire breaks. No homes are under threat at this stage.

Smith Street, Parkwood – bush fire
Fire crews have brought under control a large fire in bushland off Smith
Street at Parkwood. Approximately 10 hectares were burnt by the fire
since in started around 10.15am. No properties are under threat.






NORTH COAST REGION
Sunday Creek Road, Mount Perry
Eight fire crews are attending to a grass fire on Sunday Creek Road,
Mount Perry. The fire started around 11.30am. Firefighters have
successfully protected several homes from the blaze. A bulldozer has
also been used to construct fire breaks. A helicopter has also been
deployed to the fire to conduct water bombing. Approximately five
hectares has been burnt since the fire started. The fire is currently
moving in a south easterly direction. No homes are under threat at this
time.

Kilkivan Tansey Road and Booinbah Road, Tansey – forest fire
Ten rural fire appliances and four water bombers are working to contain
a forest fire near Kilkivan Tansey Road and Booinbah Road at Tansey. The
fire is currently burning mainly within inaccessible areas in the Mudlo
State Forest and adjoining properties. Crews are currently establishing
containment lines and backburning to protect nearby properties. There is
no current threat to homes in the area.

Maryborough Tuan Forest Road, Granville – forest fire
Fire crews have contained a fire burning off Maryborough Tuan Forest
Road at Granville. This fire has been burning since around midday
yesterday. No homes were threatened.

CENTRAL REGION
Mt Archer National Park – grass fire
A total of 30 Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) and Department
of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) crews remain battling a
large blaze in the Mt Archer and Cawarral areas.

In the New Zealand Gully area, north east of Mt Archer, the Queensland
Police Service (QPS) invoked the Public Safety and Preservation Act
(PSPA) and a total of six households were relocated as a precaution.

Any children that would normally travel home by bus from school to
residences on Sleipner Road, New Zealand Gully Road and Scented Gum Road
will be transported to the Cawarral Community Hall. The children will by
supervised by police personnel until parents arrive.

The fire continues to burn to the east of Mt Archer. Backburning
activities are now underway behind houses on the eastern face of the Mt
Archer summit.

Residents in the Mt Archer summit area are reminded to remain vigilant,
report any threat to property by phoning triple zero (000) and adhere to
the directions of emergency services personnel. Motorists are advised to
avoid the area due to large amounts of smoke and emergency vehicles. If
it is necessary to drive in the area, local residents are requested to
drive with their lights on due to smoke affecting visibility.

Bruce Highway, Proserpine – grass fire
Three fire crews are attending to a large grass fire on the Bruce
Highway at Proserpine. The fire started around 9.30am. Around 2pm the
fire jumped containment lines just south of Six Mile Creek into a sugar
cane plantation. Rural firefighters in conjunction with property owners
have used bulldozers to establish fire breaks. The fire was brought
under control at 3.15pm. There is currently no threat to homes.


FIRE BANS
Fire bans were imposed in the Local Government areas of North Burnett,
Sunshine Coast, Fraser Coast, South Burnett, Gympie, Cherbourg,
Bundaberg, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Ipswich City, Scenic Rim, Logan
City, Gold Coast, Brisbane City, Redland City and Moreton Bay from
midnight last night.

Fire bans also remain in the Local Government areas of Toowoomba,
Western Downs, Southern Downs, Paroo, Balonne, Goondiwindi, Maranoa,
Murweh, Palm Island, Banana, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Central Highlands,
Woorabinda, Isaac, Mackay, Hinchinbrook, Townsville, Whitsunday,
Charters Towers, Flinders, Richmond and Burdekin.

All fire bans will be imposed until midnight Monday, 19 October and may
be extended if dangerous fire conditions continue across the State.

The Rural Fire Service has put a ban on the lighting of all fires in
these areas, including permit fires as a precaution with high, and at
times extreme, conditions expected to continue.

The following exemptions apply under fire ban conditions:
• the use of gas and electric barbeques are permitted provided they
are not left unattended. The use of wood fire barbeques is prohibited.
• Fires for the purpose of disposal of animal carcasses are
permitted, subject to the issue of a Permit to Light Fire by the local
Fire Warden;
• Fires of commercial necessity are permitted subject to the issue
of a Permit to Light Fire by the Area Director Rural Operations;
• Fires for the purpose of burning standing sugar cane for harvest
in accordance with the established practice of the industry; and
• Fires for the purpose of burning sugar cane tops and trash on cane
production land between the hours of 1800 (6.00 pm) and 0900 (9.00 am).

LATEST: PEOPLE have evacuated their homes and several roads have been closed as ground crews and helicopters battle a large blaze on the Gold Coast.

Residents along Greenacre Drive in Parkwood said they had been told to leave their homes as the fire threat moves closer, burning several backyard fences, The Gold Coast Bulletin reports.
Police doorknocked a number of homes and told residents to leave however some residents decided to stay to protect their properties.

Twelve ground crews are on scene while helicopters are dropping water along the fire which started around 1.10pm.

Power has been cut to around 1000 homes in the area as a precaution and the Gold Coast rail line has been shut between Robina and Coomera station.

A bushfire also closed the Smith St exit off the Pacific Motorway, causing problems for afternoon commuters.

It broke out just after 1pm in bush next to the motorway before it was contained by 2.30pm. But dense smoke was still a hazard and authorities do not know when the road will reopen.

Translink says passengers will experience delays on the Gold Coast train line this afternoon after power was cut to the line between Robina and Coomera at 2.45pm due to a fire burning between Nerang and Helensvale.


Buses will replace trains on the Gold Coast train line although a Translink spokesman said they were hopeful of reopening the line by 5pm.

Meanwhile, the Ipswich Motorway has reopened after a crash closed it between Riverview and Redbank after a multiple vehicle crash.

Elsewhere, there is a multiple vehicle crash on Oxley Road inbound between the Ipswich Motorway and Lawson Street.

CENTRAL REGION
Mt Archer – bushfires
Twenty-six fire crews are currently working in the Mt Archer area. Fires have been burning throughout the Mt Archer Range area for 10 days now. Currently, the main fire is burning in a westerly direction towards the Norman Gardens and Guthrie Street (part of Frenchville) areas and residents whose properties back on to unburnt bushland in these areas are being advised to enact their bushfire plans and be prepared for a fire to affect them this afternoon and into this evening. Residents are being asked to be prepared to relocate if required and an assembly area has been established at the Rockhampton PCYC on Bridge Street for people who wish to relocate.



Several other fires burning across the Mt Archer Range area are within containment lines. Firefighters in the area are undertaking bushfire mitigation to bring all fires in the area under control. A deployment of 31 firefighters, paramedics and support staff will arrive in Rockhampton this evening to assist crews on the fireground tomorrow.

Bruce Highway, Bajool – grassfire
Four rural fire crews, waterbombing aircraft and air observers are currently at the scene of a fast moving grassfire on the Bruce Highway at Bajool. Crews are working to contain the fire and there is no threat to any property in the area at this time.

NORTH COAST REGION
Kalpowar Rd, Kolonga
Helicopters and fire crews have worked across the day to strengthen containment lines in the area with fire teams from Brisbane and Maryborough supporting local crews. The large grass fire is burning across 283 square kilometres. Crews are still conducting backburning and will continue to do so overnight to protect assets in the Gaeta valley. There are no properties under threat at this time.

Boonooroo Rd, Boonooroo
Fire crews were called to a large grass fire near the Boonooroo refuse tip around 12.30pm. Four rural crews and two urban crews worked to contain the fire using heavy machinery to assist in creating fire breaks. The fire has been contained.


NORTHERN REGION
Rowe Road, Woodstock
Fire crews continue to monitor a grass fire on Rowe Road at Woodstock which has been burning for several days. A bulldozer was used to push a fire control line to the northwest of Granitvale station. There is no threat to property at this time.

Mt Spec Road, Crystal Creek/Paluma
A large fire continues to burn in the Paluma Ranges west of Paluma in inaccessible terrain. Fire crews returned to patrol the area today in case of flare ups. No structures or properties have been threatened at this stage.


FAR NORTHERN REGION
Herberton Petford Rd/Emuford Coogarra Rd, Mt Garnet
Fire crews were involved in backburning operations today at a large grass fire on Herberton Petford Rd at Mt Garnet. Crews worked along fire control lines and monitoring of the perimeters is expected to continue tonight. There is no threat to property at this time.


SOUTH WESTERN REGION
Acadia Valley
Fire crews are working to construct control lines in an effort to contain a fire burning in inaccessible country on the edge of Acadia Valley. Fire crews have contained fires on a number of properties to within containment lines. No structures are threatened at this time.

SOUTH EASTERN REGION
Esk Crows Nest Rd, Biarra
Fire crews are monitoring and backburning at a large grass fire on Esk Crows Nest Rd at Biarra. Crews were called to the fire around 2pm. No properties are under threat at this stage.

Fire crews have again had another busy day fighting fires across the State. A total of 394 personnel have been activated to attend 46 incidents across Queensland. In battling these blazes, 133 appliances, tankers, heavy plant and aircraft have been utilised.

CENTRAL REGION
Mt Archer
Fire crews have successfully contained a fire burning in the Norman Gardens area this afternoon. Crews protected approximately 100 houses in the area this morning with minimal loss reported.

Firebreaks in the Frenchville area have prevented the fire impacting on residents in the northern part of Frenchville Drive, the southern side of Sunset Drive and residents in Guthrie Street. Residents in these areas are urged to remain vigilant in case conditions change.

Fire crews in the area are now working to contain a small outbreak of fire on Barkers Road at Nerimbah. Firefighters have conducted property protection around three houses in the area this afternoon.

The QFRS is reminding residents that the Rockhampton area is currently under a fire ban and is asking residents to refrain from lighting fires around their property to protect them. If residents feel that their property is threatened by fire they are urged to ring triple zero (000).

The QFRS is also asking any residents not directly affected by the bushfire threat to conserve their use of water so that residents and firefighters who require extra water and water pressure have what they need to protect properties.

Bruce Highway, Bajool
Two crews continue to monitor a fire off the Bruce Highway at Bajool this afternoon. The fire started around midday yesterday. An aircraft has been used to conduct aerial reconnaissance activities throughout the day to assist ground crews. A bulldozer is currently being used to establish a fire control line from Archer-Ulam Connection Road to the Bruce Highway. There is no threat to property at this time.

Dunning Road, Riordonvale
Five fire crews are on scene at a fire on Dunning Road at Riordonvale. This fire has been burning since yesterday and has flared up during the day. A tractor is being used to create fire breaks around several homes as a precaution. No homes are currently under threat.

Bruce Highway, Carmila
One fire crew is on scene at a fire off the Bruce Highway at Carmila. Emergency services received multiple triple zero (000) calls reporting the fire around 1pm. Fire breaks were placed around several homes as a precaution this afternoon. Firefighters will undertake backburning activities off the Bruce Highway and Carmila West Road tonight. No homes are under threat at this time.

Carnarvon Highway, Rewan
Two fire crews are monitoring a fire off the Carnarvon Highway at Rewan. The fire has been burning since yesterday in inaccessible terrain. Firefighters are undertaking backburning activities in the area this afternoon. No homes are under threat.

NORTH COAST REGION
Kalpowar Road, Gaeta
Multiple emergency services crews including urban and rural teams continue to battle a blaze on Kalpowar Road, Gaeta. Crews include taskforces from New South Wales, Brisbane, Ipswich and local brigades brought in to provide relief to local fire crews. The Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Police Service and State Emergency Service are assisting fire crews.

Fire crews are now working to contain the fire across five sectors using a grader and bulldozer to construct containment lines and local land marks as fire breaks. Today, crews will finalise the construction of a control line along Charnwood Road and commence backburning operations near Kalpowar Road.

The fire has burnt approximately 30,000 hectares since starting five days ago.

There is no threat to property at this time.

Horse Camp Road, Horse Camp
Eleven fire crews are attending to a large fire burning on Horse Camp Road, Horse Camp. The fire started around 9.30am. Two helicopters have been used throughout the day to conduct air observation and water bombing. Heavy equipment has also been used to construct fire breaks and firefighters have successfully protected several homes in the area. The fire remains under control. No homes are under threat at this time.

Promisedland Road, Cordalba
Four fire crews have responded to a forestry fire off Promisedland Road at Cordalba around 3.30pm. The fire is burning in Cordalba State Forest and Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) crews are also in attendance. The fire has burnt around five hectares. No homes are under threat at this time.

NORTHERN REGION
Bruce Highway, Crystal Creek
Fire crews continue to monitor a grass fire off the Bruce Highway at Crystal Creek today. The fire has been burning since Sunday and is currently burning within inaccessible terrain and moving in a westerly direction. No homes are under threat at this time.

Peter Delemonthe Road, Springlands
Four fire crews are in attendance at a fire on Peter Delemonthe Road at Springlands. The fire broke out around 12.30pm. Fire crews are now attempting to put fire breaks in using a bulldozer and grader to try and control the fire. No homes are under threat at this time.

West Point Road, Picnic Bay
Two fire crews and personnel from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service are now battling a blaze on West Point Road, Picnic Bay. The fire started just after 1pm and firefighters successfully protected several structures from the blaze. Firefighters are now conducting backburning activities on West Point Road and around structures as a precaution. No property is under threat at this time.

Dalrymple Road, Shaw
Three fire crews responded to a grass fire off Dalrymple Road at Shaw around 12.30pm. Approximately two hectares were burnt by the blaze and the fire was extinguished around 2pm. No homes were threatened by the blaze.

Saltworks Road, Guthalungra
Three fire crews have responded to a fire on Saltworks Road at Guthalungra. The fire started around 1.30pm and is burning in grazing land. No homes are under threat at this time.
