I'd say spruce.  Some will use spruce for burning.

Click on last image to enlarge.  Then Google up images for both spruce bark and pine bark.

Also, in this part of the continent if you go to the building supply store and want 2x4s, the staff will say "spruce or pine".  You pay a lot more for pine

BTW the creator of the series did a fair bit of work.  When I downloaded the images, pic #s started @ 17 and ended @ 91.  & note what's on the ground in different pics, especially #2, scads of sawdust.

I have never seen that done before - very interesting! It looks like the handle on the pan got a bit scorched.   Grin

Interesting idea, however I don't think it's an option with our native timbers which a predominantly hardwood.
