I just found a Russian Samovar for sale in a local antique shop,  think I will go back tomorrow and buy it.
Never heard of them before.
Similar to the ebay listing given below.
It is like an Aussie Bush Kettle or Thermette Kettle with a double skin and tube up the centre for charcoal.  Vents at the bottom and top.
A kettle sits in the basket on top to brew the Russian tea.
It stopped me dead in my tracks when I saw it.
Might haggle on the price as I always do with antique shops.

ANTIQUE RUSSIAN COPPER SAMOVAR:

As Beryl is a keen tea drinker I dont think she will object!

We have a genuine antique hand beaten Samovar here at home. Will take a photo of it tomorrow.  Maggie bought it in India.

This one looks nothing like the photo in that eBay advert.

The judge's decision is final... unless the 3rd umpire is called for... or a facebook campaign goes viral !!!

After a few internet searches,  it appears there are Russion, Turkish, Indian etc Samovars,  all a bit different.  Look forward to the picture of Maggies.
I can just imagine this being used at a COG,  along with Astro's clockwork spitroast!

Here you go David.

This is 600 mm or a good old 2 feet high.

The main handle and top knob look to be solid brass.  The hanging chain looks to be solid entwined copper.  The main construction is unknown but looks as though it is tinned or made from solid tin.  I have difficulty lifting it.

The patterning is obviously hand beaten.

When purchased it was still in use on a houseboat and had been with the family since before current memory so unsure of origins.  Much haggling and a lot of dollars secured it.

It is a nice old samovar and valued at "many" thousands of dollars.  Possibly made specifically for the family at the time and a one off construction as are many of them.

Beware of reproductions.

That clock sitting beside it is quite old as well Smiley
