We enjoyed a visit to Cambrai to check out what was happening with our mate here Steve joining the comp.

8 teams were competing against each other for the title of Cambrai Champ.

Having never been to a camp oven competition, I was reluctant to enter,  but went along to see what it was all about.

A very friendly group of your every day camp cooking enthusiasts trying their luck.

I only have a few pics, as it seems awkward to click away with not knowing the entrants.

Not hard to work out that it was a little chilly on the day  Smiley

One of our Cocia members checking out some competitors set up.

The coals supply

As said, not many pics, but this looked a delicious lamb shank stew.

An aluminium oven used by one of the contestants.

This bloke was previously employed by the Essendon footy club. Caught here giving some extra flavours to a slab of beef  Smiley Smiley Smiley

...

more comments later.

Was great to meet up with Fellow cocia members BrianB and Steve,

Thanks for the photo Rufz. It looks like the hot coals and the hot food later would have been very welcome going by the thick coats being worn by those in attendance. Shocked

That Innaminka oven appears to be from the Gurranang Foundry near Grafton.

I'll be able to find this thread easier next year, so I'll link your pics here Steve.

And the winner was ....... Lamb Shanks stew  Smiley Smiley Smiley

It was a delicious looking dish when I looked in their pot after a couple of hours cooking.

And their flour dish had sultanas, coconut, almond meal

was 2nd a Goat dish Steve ?

It wasn't a bad show, and everyone was pretty casual with their cooking.

I didn't realise 'till later that the $50 entry fee included two 3 course meal tickets which made the entry zilch  Smiley

And they were generous with the supplied meat ingredients.

Would have loved to taste your veggies Steve. You are definately a very creative cook.

Did your flavour work with your injected beef ?
