My mate Noel & I decided last fishing trip we would do some trolling in the Mary River today.
Noel arrived to pick me up just after 7am & we proceeded to launch to boat at the Lamington Bridge boat ramp.
We put both lures in the water just after launching & off we went.
Noel hooked a blue salmon just near the highway bridge at 9:30am & was excited as he hadn't caught one for a while.
It dehooked itself just after being landed in the boat then into the esky it went.
Saw the Byrne Bros. barge getting some gravel.
A bit later I hooked a barramundi which went 76cm.
Only took a short time to land it as I was using some heavy gear.
(Fin-Nor reel 9500 spinning reel with 80 pound braid + matching 80lb spin/jigging rod).
Some may say overkill but after losing a massive threadfin in the Burrum River a bit over a week ago I wanted nothing to get away or bust me off.
Took about 3 minutes to have it in the boat from hookup.
Turned around for another run after putting the barra on ice & I hooked a threadfin salmon which went 61cm.
Go no pics as we wanted to keep going while the action was hot.
I hooked what I think was another barra but it came off just next to the boat.
It left a scale on on of the treble hooks.
I lady I know lives on the river so I called her up to see if she was home.
She and her husband had just had lunch & I took the threadfin salmon to give to her for tea.
The hike up the steep bank from the river to her house was exhausting.
I was offered a drink & was given a beer.
I was asked if I wanted a mud crab so we all made our way back down the bank (me carrying a beer for Noel) + my sandals so I didn't fall over.
Noel had eaten his lunch & was having a snooze on his boat when we go down the bottom.
I got a bucket for the mud crab & was given some out of the pot pulled out of the water in front of their property.
Fair trade do you think?? One salmon for some mud crabs + 2 beers. :drinking25:
We trolled for a while longer after saying goodbye with no more success.
It was extremely windy on the way back to the ramp with some chop in the water.
Got back to the ramp & people were asking "What did you get" ?
I showed the ones on the ramp while Noel went to get his fourby to retrieve the boat.
After stowing everything & securing the boat + motor we went to weigh in the barramundi at the local tackle store.
It weighed 3.6kg.

Saw your post over on Ausfish.  A great day out and some nice fish as well.

Congrats on your first Barra.  I still have to achieve that goal.
