Check out this on eBay.  Is this perfect looking Furphy a new reproduction of a 1993 model.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Original-FURPHY-12-camp-oven-Shepparton-93-/322386766...

Something didn't look right to me when I first saw this and it took a while to click. But from what I can see there is no distinct gate mark in the base and the little knobs of metal on the bottom of the legs make it seem to me that the base mold has been poured through the legs.

Am I going crazy or what!!!!!!!

If I am wrong it is a good looking camp oven

Had a quick look at a "92" 12 inch I have here Derek.
My 92 doesn't have the distinct gate mark on the bottom either. That's not something I had noticed before.
At first I thought you could be right, about it being a repo ....now I think not.

Like Rory I went and had a look at my genuine 92 model, like that one the double pp's in Shepparton are misaligned and one leg on the n is short so it's a good copy but in my opinion, a copy nonetheless, just a gut feeling.

I can't look at the base gate mark as I am cooking in it right now, a piece of corned beef as a bit of a change from ham.

Hope you are all enjoying a bit of time off.

Rob.

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd

From a bloke who owns no genuine furphy"s but having seen a few, the general appearance is rough enough to call it genuine  Wink
As PD comments, would be interesting to make further comparisons on the lettering/misalignments. Also, were the "ears" always drilled for the bail at that time?

However it also looks to be unused, no sign of it being seasoned, not a skerrick of black in the surface blemishes.
From that age, remnants of surface rust would be evident so it well may be a recent repo.  Cool

Regardless, don't think I will be bidding Sad

Gatemark method of pouring was discontinued from about 1910 from what I have read. It has been a Sprue pour since then. I own a "93" model 15 inch Furphy and it has no sign of a sprue mark either. It is totally flat the same as the one in the pic. It looks like a real one to me. Mine does not have Shepparton written on it though.
