When we were away to Hervey Bay just recently I thought the starter was a bit sluggish on the motorhome and was intending to get the battery checked in the next week or so.

Today went to move it to mow.  Turned the key and barely enough juice to turn it over.

Oh well, a phone call to Battery World and now a new one installed and all good again.

One thing I did find out though, even though I have known for quite some time is that there are no such thing as budget items for this Fiat.  $615 for the battery.

Found out it is an AGM deep cycle crank battery.  Guys at Battery World tell me it is one of the biggest batteries they sell.  Shocked

Hi Derek
Yes the batteries are expensive. I recently got one for
my Disco 4 from the same company cost me $595.
One reason for the  AGM battery was due to the computer system
years ago the battery  would have to be replaced as it   was winter time
Regards Kev

Certainly hurts the pocket, replaced the battery in my old van 12 months ago and it was over $550, again from battery world.

Know Monday if the two in this caravan are ok or need replacement.

It is amazing sometimes how things can happen.

Woke up in the middle of the night with a start and in my head it was telling me I hadn’t tightened the positive battery terminal properly.

Up I went this morning, lifted the carpet, undid the floor panel, unclipped it and lifted it out (yes the battery is under the floor in front of the passenger seat) and yep it was not tightened up.  Roll Eyes

Very disappointed in this.  Battery is not long out of the three year warranty and is failing.

Went to move the motorhome two days agony and noticed a sluggish start and thought I don’t like the sound of this.  I left it to idle for half an hour before shutting down.

Today grabbed my multimeter and yep it had fallen down to 12.06 volts which is way too low.

Not happy Jan as these big buggers are not cheap.  Going to go for a Century this time round.

Pick up the new battery tomorrow.  Haven’t started the old one since above post and just went and checked and and it’s dropped down to 11.7 volts.

She’s a big heavy sod (my hooves for size comparison) and sits right under the passenger side floor so a cow of a thing to lift in and out.

It’s in now and we are ready to roll again.
