This photo is of a nest of 6 young Rosella taken today.28/10/09
The nest box is under the eve of my house, I placed the box there in early September and within 2 days a pair of Rosella moved in, they laid 8 eggs and hatched 6. I am going to add more boxes in the summer months.

Absolutely beautiful.  The Eastern Rosella is in my opinion the most beautiful of all the Australian Rosellas.

Thanks for sharing Muzz.  Just be careful with additional boxes as I am not sure just how territorial they can be.  I know a lot of the parrots are quite happy in colonies.

Have already thought about that Derek, other nest boxes will be on the other side of the house. A old chap I spoke to said in 28yrs out of 2 nests boxes (under the eves of his house) he has raised 150+ young.

Did you see on the news about the budgerigars out near Boulia.  Very good season and they are breeding in their tens of thousands.  According to a lot of records this hasn't happened since the 60's.  It made the front page of Queensland's Courier Mail newspaper.  If it wasn't so far I would head out there for a look.

SBB thanks for the Rosella site a good read, one needs to learn the origins of home grown products or whats left of them.
Derek.. On my way back from the NT I saw large flocks of budgies,
At home in the fifties and sixties we would get big flocks of budgies when the Kangaroo grass was in seed.
When farming became wide spread budgies, blue bonnets, and  mallee ring-necks disappeared. My late brother told me of a large group of Princess Parrots living and breading in river gums about 40K's east of Dubbo they came to feed on spilt grain at the stables.
